Discover how T&T Construction Management Group is defying the norms of the concrete construction world

Built on a strong basis of expertise, integrity, and excellence, T&T Construction Management Group, Inc is a woman-owned, premier concrete specialty contractor. For nearly 30 years, the company has provided turnkey horizontal and vertical concrete solutions for large-scale commercial construction projects across the Caribbean, Florida, and the Eastern United States. Dedicated to exceeding its clients’ expectations, T&T Construction Management Group offers exceptional concrete solutions that stand the test of time, along with highly reliable management services. Rebecca Thomas, CEO, shares a comprehensive overview of the business and its history.

“In 1995, my husband, Jason Thomas, and his brother, Bill, co-founded T&T Construction of Central Florida, working from their home until they completed their first tilt-up project in 1998. Over the years, they developed a wide range of state-of-the-art design and build solutions, including tilt-up wall systems. In 2014, Jason established T&T Construction Management Group as we know it today, while I worked alongside him to grow the business. I continued to contribute to the company even as we started a family, effectively balancing the demands of raising four children with my career. I was named CEO and President of T&T Construction Management Group in 2022, with Jason serving as COO and Legacy Lead. His responsibilities include mentoring, guiding, and coaching our field teams. The following year, we embarked on an ambitious plan to rebrand our organization, reflecting our positive growth from our humble beginnings primarily operating in central Florida to our expanded footprint throughout the East Coast. Today, we have reached new heights, broadened our markets, and diversified our product portfolio. Nonetheless, we acknowledge that this success couldn’t have been achieved without our 300 team members, spreadacross three regions, who are committed to serving our clients’ needs,” she begins.

Comprehensive product portfolio

Rebecca describes the contents of T&T Construction Management Group’s diverse portfolio in greater detail. “Our pre-construction services department plays a vital role in our operations. Its expertise encompasses tilt-up walls, super flat floors, extended joints and jointless floors, high tolerance specialty floors, cold storage floors or structures, wall panels with integral thin brick, multi-story buildings, decorative concrete, and cast-in-place construction. These offerings are delivered by our talented pre-construction services and operations teams, who also provide design-build and conceptual estimating, innovative value engineering and design, constructionsequence and schedules, proactive problem-solving, and top-notch customer service. It is worth noting that our cutting-edge commercial concrete solutions are used in a variety of structures and sectors, namely distribution centers, warehouses, entertainment venues, schools, universities, parking garages, retail, healthcare, aviation, cold storage, and office space. This versatility is made possible by tailoring our services to meet each client’s specific needs while ensuring the highest-quality services,” she elaborates.

“T&T Construction Management Group takes great pride in being a solution provider. We are cognizant of ESG concerns and do provide options through our expertise in designing extended joint and jointless floor systems. Eliminating joints and fewer saw cuttings allow us to provide our customers with flatter floors, less curling, less joint filler, and joint maintenance. The patch work and silica dust are also reduced. The finished product will stand the test of time for the end user.”

Exceptional execution

Particularly enthusiastic about discussing some of T&T Construction Management Group’s recent projects, Rebecca has two favorites that she would like to highlight. The first one, Project Channel, “is a nearly two-million-square-foot shell construction project for Target in San Antonio, Florida. Notably, this project included the construction of a maintenance building, pump house, guard house, and transportation building. To provide the over 70,000 cubic yards of concrete required from us, our team collaborated with two suppliers, pouring 3000 cubic yards of concrete weekly. The most challenging aspect of this project was reinforcing the 417,000 square-foot second floor mezzanine with D9 mesh. In summary, our work throughout this scheme entailed providing 9230 cubic yards of foundation, 30,000 cubic yards of slab-on-grade, 9800 cubic yards of thermal waste processing (TWP), 14,509 cubic yards of paving, and 6900 cubic yards of slab-on-metal deck. Partnering with our general contractor, Layton Construction, we delivered this large-scale building in ten months, despite material and supply shortages, two hurricanes, and a tropical storm occurring during the project. We are very proud of our execution of all phases of the project, which were all completed on time and with excellence. Furthermore, the resulting distribution center is poised to create great employment opportunities for the San Antonio community,” she states.

Project Orange County Fire Rescue Training Facility (OCF) in Orlando, Florida, is another endeavor Rebecca is especially proud of, “given its meaningful impact on our community as it supports and trains our firefighters and medics,” she reveals. “We admire our first responders and the sacrifice they make each day to help others, so we hope this training facility will serve them well for many years. As we brace for this project, we acknowledge it will be both challenging and rewarding for everyone involved. The training facility includes an education center with classrooms, administrative offices, locker rooms, and mock fire station apparatus bays. Meanwhile, the rest of the campus is supported by multi-story drill and burn towers, pavilions, a two-story, two-room testing center, a collapse building, and a trench training area. Its architectural finishes include angled walls that mimic a fire ladder being placed against the building, which were constructed with tilt walls. We are delighted to have been chosen to work alongside Mulligan, KMF Architects, and Orange County, and our team is working diligently to meet our client’s goals by delivering the training facility on time and within budget,” she adds.

From her atypical position as a woman in charge of a construction company, Rebecca closes our interview with some valuable insights into T&T Construction Management Group’s – and the industry’s – attitude towards female workers. “Over the past 15 years, the construction sector has made great strides to accommodate women in the field. However, it remains a fast-paced career with long hours and tight schedules.” Evidently, there still are challenges for the industry to address in order to be more appealing to women. “At T&T Construction Management Group, we are considering ways to make construction more inviting to attract women, and we understand that we need to accommodate both their career growth and family needs. Consequently, we are establishing systems in our organization to foster a conducive work environment for women, prioritizing their family life, and offering flexible schedules to balance and address the needs of working mothers,” she ends.

By promoting a welcoming environment for everyone and delivering landmark projects on schedule, T&T Construction Management Group is certain to positively impact more communities through its groundbreaking initiatives.
